(250930) -- BEIJING, Sept. 30, 2025 (Xinhua) -- This photo taken on Sept. 24, 2025 shows 98-year-old Xu He, a veteran of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, posing with a portrait of his younger self in military uniform. Born in 1927, Xu joined the New Fourth Army in 1944. China's top legislature approved designating Sept. 30 as Martyrs' Day in 2014 to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of national independence and prosperity.
