TOKYO, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Thursday after Wall Street hit record highs overnight following the inauguration of U.S. President Joe Biden.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 242.41 points, or 0.85 percent, from Wednesday to 28,765.67.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 16.14 points, or 0.87 percent, at 1,865.72.
Land transportation, service, and information and communication issues comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
