TOKYO, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Wednesday morning as investors opted to secure profits, but losses were trimmed by hopes for additional U.S. stimulus.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 129.08 points, or 0.45 percent, from Tuesday to 28,504.38.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 9.38 points, or 0.51 percent, at 1,846.46.

Marine transportation, air transportation and securities house-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
