TACURONG CITY, Sultan Kudarat, Dec. 2 (PIA) - Barely three months after the city government started laying the groundworks, the first COVID-19 Isolation Facility at Barangay Upper Katungal was opened for returning residents wishing to spend the holidays with their loved ones and families here.
City Mayor Angelo Roncal O. Montilla said that the 28-room isolation facility named Crown V-Center (culled from Corona virus) got a share of P5.24 M from the Bayanihan 2 fund downloaded by the national government to the city coffer.
Mayor Montilla said the city government decided to deviate from the common practice of most LGUs to use the said grant for procurement of protective gears, relief goods, and other COVID-19-related supplies. Instead, with the nod of the city council, the LGU decided that it will be put to better use if an isolation facility be built to house confirmed and suspect COVID-19 cases.
This action also got the commendation of the regional directors of the Dept. of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region XII Josephine Leysa, Dept. of Health-Center for Heath Development Soccsksargen Dr. Aristides Tan, and Office of Civil Defense Region XII Minda Morante who joined local officials at the launching of the Bayanihan 2-funded first Isolation Facility.
The three directors were all praises for this initiative of LGU Tacurong, that as a result, Director Tan promised an additional funding of P10 million for Tacurong City to be used for more isolation facilities.
Director Leysa also promised to provide 30 more contact tracers for the city's contact tracing efforts, while Director Morante pledged P1 Million to be used for the center's meals until December 2020.
The addition of the Crown-V Center to the city's arsenal against COVID-19 could not have come at a better time. Together with the existing DOH-accredited barangay isolation facilities in the city as well as the LGU-identified paid accommodations, the city government is expected to be well-equipped this holiday season for the surge of LSIs and ROFs who will be coming home for Christmas.
In his message, Mayor Montilla thanked the guidance and support of the three officials [Tan, Leysa, and Morante] in the implementation of this project. He also commended his colleagues in the city government for doing a quality and honest job in implementing national projects using national budgets.
The mayor also noted the resilience of Tacurongnons during this pandemic and thanked them for their cooperation and respect to the city government, as he said "Ipakita naton nga hindi guid pwede magluhod ang siyudad sang Tacurong sa pandemya nga ini. Gatindog kag gabato kita para madaog kontra sa COVID-19."
