SYDNEY -- Residents and visitors on Australia's Fraser Island have been told to prepare for the worst as an out of control bushfire swept towards a major tourist resort on Tuesday.

The fire has already burnt over 72,000 hectares or 42 percent of the World Heritage listed island, off Queensland State's east coast, since spreading from an illegal campfire six weeks ago. (Australia-Bushfire)

TOKYO -- Japan's unemployment rate increased to 3.1 percent in October, the highest level in more than three years, as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to adversely affect businesses, government data showed Tuesday.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the total number of unemployed people in the country increased 80,000 to 2.14 million. (Japan-Unemployment Rate)

YANGO -- The Myanmar military announced on Tuesday the extension of the suspension period of its operation against armed groups to the end of December.

The Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services issued a statement that the suspension of military activities which was expired on Monday will be further extended to Dec. 31. (Myanmar-Extension-Military)

UNITED NATIONS -- Following damage and destruction of the water infrastructure in Ethiopia's Tigray region during a nearly month-long conflict, affected people reportedly have been forced to use untreated water to survive, UN humanitarians said on Monday.

"It is critical that essential supplies and services are restored immediately in Mekelle and across the Tigray region, and the UN and partners are working with all parties to this end," the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a release, referring to the capital of Tigray regional state.
