TOKYO -- The Tokyo metropolitan government reported 204 new daily COVID-19 infections, according to preliminary figures released at 3:00 p.m. local time on Friday.

The latest figure for the capital of 14 million marks the second straight day that infections have topped the 200-mark and the 11th successive day new positive cases have surpassed 100, the metropolitan government said. (Japan-COVID-19)

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan summoned a senior Indian diplomat on Friday and lodged a formal protest over recent ceasefire violations that injured two civilians along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kashmir region, according to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.

A Foreign Ministry's statement said that Indian forces committed ceasefire violations in Nezapir and Rakhchikri sectors of the LoC on Thursday, resulting in serious injuries to two innocent civilians. A 22-year-old woman was among the injured due to "indiscriminate and unprovoked firing" by the Indian forces, the statement said. (Pakistan-India-Ceasefire violations)

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 8,088,851 on Friday as 48,648 new cases were detected across the country in the past 24 hours, said the latest data released by the federal health ministry.

With 564 deaths since Thursday morning, the total death toll in the country due to the pandemic reached 121,090, added the ministry's data. Still there are 594,386 active COVID-19 cases in the country, while 7,373,375 people have been successfully cured and discharged from hospitals so far. (India-COVID-19 cases)

MANILA -- The death toll from Typhoon Molave has risen to 22, a government disaster agency said on Friday, while the country's weather bureau announced another storm is on the way.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in an updated report that four were still missing and 39 injured after the typhoon pounded the Philippines from Sunday to Tuesday. (Philippines-Typhoon)
