TOKYO, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened slightly higher on Friday as a halt in the yen's rise triggered investors to buy back export-related issues including automakers.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 64.33 points, or 0.28 percent, from Thursday to 23,383.70.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, was up 6.15 points, or 0.38 percent, at 1,644.55.

Marine transportation, transportation equipment, and warehousing and harbor transportation service issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
