TOKYO, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday as investors opted to take profits following the market's recent gains, while a powerful explosion in the Lebanese capital sparked concerns.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 161.93 points, or 0.72 percent, from Tuesday to 22,411.73.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 10.52 points, or 0.68 percent, at 1,544.74.

Air and marine transportation, and electric power and gas issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
